HR departments collect huge amounts of employee information on paper and in digital form. This 90-minute HR recordkeeping webinar covers the legal and practical side of managing both, including what to keep, what to toss, for how long, and your obligations if a federal or state agency comes asking.

You'll review the employment records you must keep and their retention periods, what to do when state rules differ from federal ones, and why keeping everything is almost as risky as keeping nothing. The session explains what counts as an e-record, from log-on and log-off times to calendars, notes, to-do lists and emails.

It also shows how to check that your record policies are current and legally sound, when and how to destroy records, and when the duty to preserve them is triggered.

  • Identify the employment records you must keep and for how long
  • Resolve conflicts between state and federal retention rules
  • Recognize what counts as an electronic record
  • Assess whether your records policies are current and legally sound
  • Destroy paper and electronic records properly, including for terminated employees
  • Know when the legal duty to preserve records begins

With information shared online and through phones and tablets, keeping employee records confidential is harder than ever. This session suits records management, HR and payroll professionals.
